demophobia

Fear of crowds

Demophobia is an irrational fear of crowds or large gatherings of people.

The term combines Greek roots for "people" and "fear." Someone with demophobia may avoid public spaces, concerts, or busy streets: Her demophobia made commuting on the subway unbearable.

The condition overlaps with agoraphobia but focuses specifically on the presence of masses of people rather than open spaces generally.
