demob
Leave military service
Demob is British informal for demobilization—the process of releasing military personnel from active service after a war ends.
As a verb, to demob someone is to discharge them from the armed forces: My grandfather was demobbed in 1945.
The word carries associations with postwar transition and returning to civilian life.
