decimal fraction

Number after point

A decimal fraction is a fraction expressed using the decimal system, with the denominator being a power of ten.

Rather than writing 3/10 or 47/100, decimal fractions use a decimal point: 0.3, 0.47.

The term distinguishes these from common fractions written with numerators and denominators.
