improper fraction
Numerator exceeds denominator
An improper fraction has a numerator equal to or greater than its denominator: 5/4, 7/3, 9/9.
The value is one or more.
Improper fractions can be converted to mixed numbers (5/4 becomes 1¼), though in mathematics they're often preferred for calculations.
The term is slightly misleading—there's nothing wrong with them.
