cutline
Text under image
A cutline is the caption accompanying a photograph or illustration in a newspaper or magazine, typically appearing directly below the image.
The term comes from journalism, where images were traditionally "cut" into the layout.
The cutline identified everyone in the group photo.
Though caption is more common in general usage, cutline remains standard in newsroom terminology.
