croakers
Wetland chorus members
Croakers are fish that produce drumming or croaking sounds using their swim bladders—the Atlantic croaker being a common example along North American coasts.
The word also means people who complain or predict doom: Don't listen to the croakers saying the project will fail.
In dated slang, a croaker was a doctor, especially one who signed death certificates or prescribed narcotics freely.
