crisis actor
Fake emergency performer
Crisis actor is a term from conspiracy theories claiming that victims or witnesses of mass shootings, terrorist attacks, or other tragedies are actually paid performers staging fake events.
Believers use the term to dismiss genuine tragedies as government hoaxes designed to manipulate public opinion, often about gun control.
The accusation has been directed at grieving families, causing them additional harm.
Conspiracy theorists accused the shooting survivors of being crisis actors.
Outside conspiracy circles, the term may sarcastically describe someone being melodramatic.
