countermotions

Contrary procedural actions

Countermotions are motions made in opposition to other motions, typically in parliamentary, legal, or formal meeting contexts.

When someone proposes an action, a countermotion offers an alternative or contradictory proposal: The board entertained several countermotions before reaching a decision.

The term also applies to physical movements in opposite directions.
