countermotion

Response to motion

A countermotion is a motion made in opposition to another motion, whether in parliamentary procedure, legal proceedings, or physical movement.

In meetings, someone might file a countermotion to block or modify a proposal: The board member introduced a countermotion to table the discussion.

In physics or biomechanics, it describes movement in the opposite direction to balance or oppose another force.
