counter-tenor
Male alto voice
A counter-tenor is a male singer with an unusually high vocal range, typically singing in the alto or mezzo-soprano register through the use of falsetto or a naturally high voice.
The term distinguishes these singers from tenors, who occupy the highest range most men can reach in their natural voice: The early music ensemble featured a counter-tenor in the lead role.
