cottonwood fluff
Tree's airborne offspring
Cottonwood fluff is the cottony mass of fibers attached to cottonwood seeds, released in late spring and early summer.
The white tufts drift through the air in such quantities they can resemble snow, accumulating in drifts along curbs and fences: The cottonwood fluff was so thick it clogged the air conditioner filter.
