cottage country
Rural vacation region
Cottage country is a region, typically within a few hours' drive of a major city, where people own rustic vacation homes on lakes or in wooded areas.
The term is primarily Canadian, describing destinations like Ontario's Muskoka or Quebec's Laurentians.
We're heading up to cottage country for the long weekend.
The equivalent American term is lake country or simply "the lake."
