cornsilk

Ear's golden strands

Cornsilk is the mass of fine, silky threads that emerge from the top of an ear of corn, each strand connected to a kernel inside.

When corn is fresh, the silk is pale and glossy; it dries and darkens as the ear matures.

She pulled the cornsilk away before boiling the ears.

Cornsilk is also used in herbal remedies, traditionally as a mild diuretic.
