Mandatory academic subjects
Core courses are required classes that form the foundation of a degree program or curriculum, as opposed to electives students choose freely.
In college, core courses typically cover broad subjects—writing, math, sciences, humanities—that all students must complete regardless of major: I'm still finishing my core courses before I can focus on my concentration.
