survey course
Broad academic overview
A survey course is an introductory academic class that covers a broad subject area without going deep into any single topic.
It provides an overview rather than specialized knowledge: The art history survey course spans from cave paintings to contemporary installations.
Survey courses give students a foundation before they pursue more focused study.
