cord cutting
Abandoning traditional television
Cord cutting is canceling cable or satellite television service in favor of streaming alternatives.
The cord is the cable connecting to traditional pay TV.
Someone who has made this switch is a cord cutter: We cut the cord years ago and just use Netflix now.
The practice accelerated as streaming services multiplied and cable prices rose.
