copy boy
Editorial errand youth
A copy boy was an entry-level newspaper employee who ran errands, delivered copy from reporters to editors, and performed other menial tasks in the newsroom.
The position, which also employed women despite the name, served as a traditional starting point for journalism careers.
The role has largely disappeared with digital workflows: He started as a copy boy at the Tribune before becoming a reporter.
