copper engraving
Pressed metallic printmaking
Copper engraving is a printmaking technique in which an image is incised into a copper plate using sharp tools called burins, then inked and pressed onto paper.
The method produces fine, detailed lines and was widely used from the Renaissance through the 19th century for book illustrations, maps, and art prints.
The term also refers to a print made by this process.
The museum's collection includes several copper engravings by Dürer.
