coordinate axis
Reference number line
A coordinate axis is a reference line used to locate points in space.
In a two-dimensional plane, the horizontal x-axis and vertical y-axis intersect at the origin.
Three-dimensional systems add a z-axis.
Points are described by their distances from these axes: The graph shows temperature plotted along the vertical axis.
