convener

Assembles the group

A convener is someone who convenes—who calls people together for a meeting or gathering.

The term appears most often in organizational contexts: The convener of the committee scheduled the first session.

In Scottish local government and some universities, convener is a formal title for the presiding officer of a council or board.
