contradicting

Denying another's claim

Contradicting is asserting the opposite of what someone else has said, or denying the truth of a statement: She kept contradicting everything he said.

It can also describe actions or evidence that conflict with claims: The data is contradicting our hypothesis.

To contradict oneself is to say things that can't both be true.
