congressional elections
Capitol Hill contests
Congressional elections are U.S. elections for seats in the House of Representatives and Senate.
All 435 House seats are contested every two years, while roughly one-third of the 100 Senate seats are up each cycle.
When they fall in non-presidential years, they're called midterm elections: Congressional elections often serve as a referendum on the sitting president.
