red wave
GOP electoral sweep
Red wave is American political slang for a strong electoral performance by the Republican Party, whose color is red.
The term typically describes expectations or results where Republicans win numerous seats across multiple races: Pollsters predicted a red wave in the midterms, but it never materialized.
The opposite is a blue wave for Democrats.
