blue wave
Liberal electoral landslide
Blue wave refers to a sweeping electoral victory for the Democratic Party, whose color is blue.
The term gained prominence in the 2018 U.S. midterm elections when Democrats hoped to flip many seats: Progressives are predicting a blue wave in November.
The opposite is a red wave for Republicans.
