cone shell

Toxic sea snail

A cone shell is a predatory sea snail of the family Conidae, prized by collectors for its beautifully patterned spiral shell.

The animal hunts using a venomous harpoon-like tooth that can deliver stings dangerous or even fatal to humans: Never pick up a live cone shell.

Found in tropical waters, particularly around coral reefs.
