composite numbers

Not solely prime

Composite numbers are positive integers that can be divided evenly by numbers other than one and themselves—the opposite of prime numbers.

Six is composite because it divides by two and three; seven is prime because only one and seven divide it evenly.

Every composite number can be expressed as a product of primes: 12 = 2 × 2 × 3.
