factor tree
Divisor branching diagram
A factor tree is a diagram used in mathematics to break down a number into its prime factors.
Starting with a composite number, you draw branches to pairs of factors, then continue branching until all endpoints are prime numbers: The factor tree for 24 splits into 2 and 12, then 12 splits into 2 and 6, then 6 into 2 and 3.
The method helps students visualize prime factorization.
