combat casualties
Soldiers killed fighting
Combat casualties are military personnel killed, wounded, captured, or missing as a result of enemy action.
The term distinguishes losses from fighting from non-combat casualties—those caused by accidents, disease, or other circumstances unrelated to battle: The unit suffered heavy combat casualties during the offensive.
In military reporting, combat casualties often appear alongside total casualty figures to indicate the cost of actual engagement.
