military orders
Soldier's marching instructions
Military orders are religious organizations whose members take monastic vows but also engage in warfare or defense.
The term usually refers to medieval Christian orders like the Knights Templar and Knights Hospitaller, founded during the Crusades to protect pilgrims and hold territory.
Some survive today in ceremonial or charitable form.
The phrase also applies to official commands issued by military authorities: The general's military orders were not to be questioned.
