cold reads
Scripts without rehearsal
Cold reads are initial script readings by actors who haven't had time to study or rehearse the material beforehand.
Auditions often involve cold reads to test how performers handle unfamiliar text on the spot: She nailed the cold read and got a callback.
The term also appears in acting classes and table reads for new scripts.
