chukar

Asian game bird

A chukar is a gray-and-tan game bird native to Asia and southeastern Europe, introduced to western North America for hunting.

It has distinctive black-and-white barring on the flanks and a black band running through the eyes.

Chukars favor rocky, arid terrain and are notoriously difficult to hunt, earning a reputation for making hunters climb steep slopes.
