Chow chow is a relish made from chopped pickled vegetables—typically a mix of cabbage, peppers, onions, and green tomatoes in a mustard or vinegar base.
Popular in Southern and Appalachian American cooking, it accompanies beans, greens, and other dishes: She spooned chow chow over her pinto beans. (Capitalized Chow Chow is the dog breed.)
