chimneybreast
Room's masonry bulge
A chimneybreast is the projecting wall structure that surrounds a fireplace and chimney flue, extending into a room from the main wall.
In older homes, the chimneybreast creates alcoves on either side, often used for built-in shelving or cupboards.
They knocked out the chimneybreast to create more floor space.
