Intensive planning session
A charrette is an intensive, collaborative design session where architects, planners, or other professionals work under deadline pressure to solve a problem or complete a project.
The format typically brings together diverse stakeholders—designers, community members, officials—for concentrated brainstorming over hours or days: The city held a charrette to gather input on the new waterfront development.
The term comes from French for "cart," from the legend of architecture students finishing drawings on carts rushing their work to deadlines.
