character assessment
Judging someone's nature
Character assessment is the evaluation of someone's moral qualities, personality traits, and behavioral tendencies.
It may be formal—as in employment screening, security clearances, or psychological testing—or informal, as when sizing someone up: After a few conversations, I'd made my own character assessment.
The term implies judgment of reliability, integrity, and fitness for trust.
