bar exams
Lawyer licensing tests
Bar exams are the licensing tests that law school graduates must pass to practice law in a particular jurisdiction.
Each U.S. state administers its own bar exam, and passing one state's exam doesn't authorize practice in another.
The exams typically span two or three days and test legal knowledge, analytical reasoning, and writing.

To pass the bar is to become licensed; to fail the bar requires retaking it.
