championship banners
Title-winning decorations hung
Championship banners are large fabric displays hung in sports arenas to commemorate league titles, conference championships, or other major victories.
Teams retire these banners to the rafters as permanent records of achievement: The Celtics have seventeen championship banners hanging in the Garden.
The practice is most associated with basketball and hockey, where arena ceilings become visible histories of franchise success.
