catseyes

Glass spheres, swirled

Catseyes, also spelled cat's eyes, are the small reflective road markers embedded in pavement to guide drivers at night, particularly common in the UK.

The term comes from their resemblance to the way a cat's eyes glow when light hits them in darkness.

Catseyes may also refer to marbles with a distinctive streaked interior pattern, or to the gemstone chrysoberyl when it displays chatoyancy—a luminous band across its surface.

The catseyes lit up as my headlights swept the curve.
