casting reel
Angler's line holder
A casting reel is a fishing reel mounted on top of the rod, where the spool rotates to release and retrieve line.
Unlike spinning reels, casting reels require more skill to avoid backlash—the tangled "bird's nest" that forms when the spool spins faster than line pays out.
Baitcasting reels handle heavier line and lures; spincast reels enclose the mechanism for simpler operation.
