cast recordings
Broadway musical soundtracks
Cast recordings are audio albums capturing the songs from a musical theater production, performed by the show's cast.
An original cast recording features the performers from the first production; subsequent recordings may feature revival casts or film casts.
Unlike soundtracks, which capture what was recorded for a film, cast recordings are typically made in a studio after a show opens: I wore out my cast recording of Les Misérables.
