play scripts

Dialogue for actors

Play scripts are the written texts of dramatic works, containing dialogue, stage directions, and scene divisions that guide theatrical performance.

The format distinguishes them from prose: character names precede their lines, and bracketed instructions indicate movement, tone, or setting.

The drama students read through the play scripts before auditions.

Also called simply scripts or, in earlier usage, playscripts.
