cash in
Convert to currency
To cash in is to convert something to money—cashing in chips at a casino, cashing in bonds, cashing in on an investment.
The phrase extends to exploiting any opportunity for gain: Politicians cash in on fear.
To cash in one's chips is also a euphemism for dying, from the finality of leaving the game.
