carabineers
Mounted troops historically
Carabineers are soldiers armed with carbines—short rifles originally designed for cavalry.
The term also names specific military regiments, particularly in British and Italian armies.
In climbing, carabineer is an older spelling of carabiner, the metal clip used to secure ropes: She clipped the carabineers to her harness.
