Preserving jar cover
A canning lid is the flat metal disc that seals a canning jar, used in home food preservation.
The lid has a rubberized ring on its underside that softens during processing and creates an airtight seal as it cools.
Canning lids are designed for single use—once the seal has been broken, the lid cannot reliably reseal.
Check that the canning lid has popped down to confirm a good seal.
