calvary
Outdoor crucifixion monument
A calvary is a sculptural representation of the crucifixion of Jesus, typically displayed outdoors at churches or along roadsides, especially in Catholic regions.
The term also refers to any experience of intense suffering or trial: Her years of caring for her dying mother were a calvary. (Capitalized Calvary is the biblical site.)
