A call shot is a play in billiards or pool where the player announces which ball will go into which pocket before taking the shot.
The term extends to any situation where someone predicts a specific outcome before attempting it: He called his shot and then delivered exactly what he promised.
To call one's shot is to state intentions boldly, inviting judgment if you fail.
