blind luck
Fortune without merit
Blind luck is fortune that arrives without skill, planning, or merit—pure chance with no guiding intelligence behind it.
The blindness suggests randomness that can't see or favor anyone: It was blind luck that I happened to check my email right then.
Often implies the outcome could just as easily have gone the other way.
