byre
Where cows sleep
A byre is a shelter for cows—a barn or cowshed.
The word is chiefly British and somewhat old-fashioned: The farmer led the herd into the byre for milking.
It appears in rural and historical contexts, particularly in Scottish and Northern English usage.
