bristlecones
Twisted alpine survivors
Bristlecones are a group of pine trees known for extreme longevity—some specimens have lived over 5,000 years, making them among the oldest living organisms on Earth.
They grow in harsh, high-altitude environments of the American West, their gnarled, twisted forms shaped by centuries of wind and cold: The bristlecones on the ridge looked ancient and weathered.
