brisling

Tiny canned fish

Brisling is a small fish of the herring family, typically found in Norwegian fjords and nearby Atlantic waters.

Brislings are most familiar as canned sardines, often packed in oil and sold as a delicacy: a tin of brisling sardines.

The term sometimes applies loosely to other small, similar fish prepared the same way.
